From this location we walk the short distance to the creek. You will learn about using the gold pan while hearing of the history of the Valley Level Of Difficulty Easy Where to meet Meet at the BEECHWORTH Visitors Information Centre Ford St Beechworth at 2 PM You Need Your own vehicle (The sites are about 11 Km from Beechworth) some water and comfortable walking shoes or boots. Do not expect highly colourful bright art as you may see at other locations this art is ancient and faded but VERY significant.WEDNESDAYS FRIDAYS AND SUNDAYS ABORIGINAL ART SITE TOUR 2.5 Hours 2 PM to 4.30 PM The Site The first site is also important as it has a drawing of a Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) on the wall, which is extremely rare on mainland Australia. There is also a interpretative walk where we will discuss how the tribe lived and hunted while the second site has significant religious art on its walls. The second site has one of the few dreamtime people drawings in Victoria The Tour We drive in convoy from Beechworth to Mt Pilot and Park at the Toveys Road Art site car park. From this location we walk the short distance to the Art Site. From there we continue around the Interpretative walk and then back to our vehicles where we drive the short distance back to the Hidden Valley where we park again. From here we walk up the ravine to the top of the Cliffs where there is a wonderful art gallery where there are “spirit figures” and an aboriginal warrior surrounded by the food and sacred objects that sustained the tribe. The walk back to the cars along the ridge is through interesting granite rocks and the flora that grows on it. (We also have a 10 metre introductory cliff for the nervous) The cliffs are only a short distance from the Town and have excellent views of the woolshed valley and the Granite ranges of Mt PilotMORNING ABSEILING IN THE BEECHWORTH GORGE 3 Hours 10 AM to 1 PM The Site Located on the gorge road the cliffs are just past the Bailey bridge over spring creek. Beechworth built the gorge road with prize moneys won during the 1930’s best tourist town awards. The Adventure We drive in convoy from Beechworth to the abseil site then after rigging up and having a safety brief we walk to the top of the cliffs to start the first abseil. You can then abseil as many times as you like in the time block.
