THEÂ UNDERGROUND RIVER CAVE
The Cave is a Granite Boulder Infill Cave some 400 metres long with about
100 to 150 metres easily navigable (for a normal group, this can take up to
1 & 1/2 to 2 hours). During Nov to Jan there is often swift running
water in the Cave and this adds to the Adventure. The expedition is always
partly in water and you will get wet and cold, see clothing requirements in
"you need".
There are glowworms in the cave and although they are sometimes elusive, they
can often be seen from early January to the end of Summer. There are
also cave dwelling spiders, cave crickets and other insects. In Early
autumn there are unusual Fungi in the cave as well.
THE ADVENTURE
A standard Caving Adventure takes around 2 & 1/2 to 3 hours to
conduct, including briefings and preparation, walking down to the Cave, passage through the
cave and the return walk back to the Chalet.
 Longer activities where Caving
Technique is taught can also be arranged.
Caving at Mt Buffalo includes squeezing
through holes, climbing rockfalls, wading through pools, scrambling up rapids, and climbing up
waterfalls. It is a great adventure!
YOU NEED
For most of the year it is cold in the cave and you need to wear old synthetic
or thermal clothing. Rubber soled boots are required (sand shoes are
OK). We provide a thermal top to wear under your own old clothes if necessary.
Any personal medication such as ASTHMA PUFFERS etc needs to be brought and
the Leaders advised.A moderate level of fitness
and dexterity is required and although some disabilities and previous injuries
may be acceptable, these need to be advised to ADVENTURE GUIDES AUSTRALIA
as early as possible for consideration of participation.

BUCHAN
Buchan is located just inland from Lakes Entrance and can be accessed via
Prince's Highway or over Mt Hotham along the Great Alpine Road.
It is a small township originally based around the Limestone Tourist Caves
and the Timber industry. It is now also a holiday area for fisherman, four-wheel
drivers, bush walkers and cavers. There is a shop, country hotel and a range
of accommocation.
The beaches and lakes of Gippsland are in close proximity.
ACCOMMODATION
We would normally stay at one of the backpacker style accommodations or rent
a self contained cabin. The camping ground has good facilities for campers
and is also an excellent option in the warmer months.
BUCHAN SHOW CAVES
No visit to Buchan is complete without visits to one of the main show Caves.
This is an extra fee, but a small one and is well worth including into your
Adventure.

Limestone Caves are formed by water seeping along cracks in the limestone
slowly dissolving the stone away to form Tunnels and Caverns. This water
in turn deposits the Calcite it has dissolved to form magnificent Cave Decoration
that hang from the ceilings, flow down the walls, and rise up from the floors.
WILD LIMESTONE CAVING
During our Adventure we will use both horizontal Caving techniques and vertical
systems to explore the Caverns.
Horizontal Caving is where we do not need abseil and climbing systems,
but are able to access caves by crawling and walking.
In Vertical caving we use rope systems to access the areas we wish to visit
and explore. In some Caves, this is the only to gain access.
THE COST
We can conduct Adventures of two or more full Days duration ex Buchan.
(We require two leaders for a group regardless of the group size.)
| l |
2 days Caving is $330 pp with a minimum fee of $1320 |
| l |
3 days Caving is $420 pp with a minimum fee of $1680 |
Accommodation and Catering can be arranged.
We can arrange for accommodation and meals where required.
NOTE: The maximum group size is six persons plus two guides. Smaller
groups may cost more per participant but you will get more caving done.
WE PROVIDE
Two leaders, all safety equipment, permits, Public Liability Insurance
etc.

WEE JASPER
Wee Jasper is located in NSW on the Yass to Tumut road but is also close to
Canberra. It is in a valley at the top of Burrinjuk Dam.
It is a small township originally based around the sheep industry, now a
holiday area for fishermen, bush walkers and cavers. There is a shop, small
country hotel (very small) and a variety of budget style accommodation.
ACCOMMODATION
We would normally rent one of the old houses that are used by holiday makers
and cavers. There are also old Shearer's Quarters for larger groups and there
are self contained units at the Hotel.
The camping ground has good facilities for campers and is also an excellent
option in the warmer months.
|
CAREY'S CAVE
No visit to Wee Jasper is complete without a visit to Carey's show cave.
This is an extra fee, but a small one and is well worth including into your
adventure.
Carey's Cave has excellent examples of most forms of Cave Decorations
(see Wild
Limestone Caving above). We will also find cave decorations
in the Wild Caves that we explore.
THE ADVENTURE
We start with horizontal Cave systems, then we will progress to practising
abseiling etc on a cliff outside of the Caves and once we have mastered these
skills, we will abseil into one of the Caverns and explore harder to access
places.
The practice and use of other techniques such as the use of steel wire ladders
and single rope ascending systems etc will also be included.
THE COST
We can conduct Adventures of two or more full days duration ex
Wee Jasper.
